Mobile Website Checklist for Small Businesses

Many customers may reach your website on a phone. Walk through this list on a real device—not just an editor preview—and note anything that feels slow, confusing, or difficult to tap.

First impression and navigation

  • The headline explains what the business offers within seconds.
  • The menu opens, makes sense, and is easy to close.
  • There is no sideways scrolling or clipped text.
  • Phone and primary actions are easy to find.

Also test portrait and landscape orientation and larger text settings. Buttons need enough space to prevent accidental taps.

Reading, images, and speed

Check contrast, text size, and paragraph length. Use headings to separate topics; customers should not need to zoom in to read essential information. Images should add context, fit small screens, and be compressed so they do not delay loading.

Test over a mobile connection, not only fast office Wi-Fi. Review the homepage and the pages receiving search traffic—one heavy element may slow one URL more than another.

Contact and forms

  • The phone link opens a call with the correct number.
  • WhatsApp buttons lead to the business account.
  • Form fields work and show helpful errors.
  • The keyboard does not cover submit; a confirmation appears.
  • Privacy links and notices are readable.

Submit a real test and confirm it reaches the person responsible for replying. A form appearing on screen does not prove it works.

Accessibility and ongoing checks

Use descriptive alternative text for meaningful images, labels connected to form fields, and visible keyboard focus. Do not communicate information through color alone. Repeat the test after theme, plugin, content, or third-party tool changes.

If you use analytics, compare technical signals with what real users report. Fix barriers that prevent people from understanding your service or contacting you first.

Frequently asked questions

Is testing in the website editor enough?

No. Use a real phone to test menus, calls, forms, and loading under normal conditions.

What should I fix first?

Prioritize broken links or forms, unreadable text, clipped content, and pages that take too long to show essential information.
